SEGUNDA STYLE: MY LADY TIE

So, I thought today would be a good day for segunda style. For my newer readers, 'Segunda' is just 'thrift store' except growing up we didn't call them thrift stores, we called them (all my cousins and family say it with me) 'Segundas'. So now you're all educated and maybe even a little closer to becoming Mexican...I don't know if that's true, but I'm willing to let you in the club.

I'm particularly fond of this outfit, it is all (w/ the exception of undergarments) segunda. Head to toe, about $15. What do you think of my lady tie? I was trying to channel a little Dian Keaton, but I think I may have missed a little and hit troop Beverly Hills.

I use to be a girl scout though, so I guess I can't help but exude troopiness. But seriously, loving my lady tie. I saw it at my last segunda venture sitting lonely and untouched on the rack. I circled it like a hawk and before anyone else could even notice it, it was safely sitting in my basket. I'm a lady tie rescuer. That's really all there is to it.
The blouse was a school uniform shirt, I cut the sleeves off making it more seasonal.
The skirt went to about my calves, and I cut that too. Originally I was going to hem it, but I was too eager to wear it, and then I realized, I kinda like the juxtaposition of an unfinished skirt with a nice blouse.

and there it is..my Segunda Style. Thinking you might want a lady tie of your own? Well you can't have mine, but I do know a lovely Mobile Boutique that happens to be selling some. That's right, if you're in the Sacramento area, check out my sister's truck Gypsy, she's got the goods.
Today's Reflection:
I don't always feel lovely, I have those moments when I look in the mirror and say or think things that are just rotten. If the enemy attacks, then he seems to linger in my mirror. Isn't that silly? Isn't it crazy how we are clearly all uniquely and beautifully made, yet still some of us want to argue this point internally. God, standing right there watching us, asking "Is this going to take long because I've got things I need you to do" Silly.

“What sorrow awaits those who argue with their Creator.  Does a clay pot argue with its maker? Does the clay dispute with the one who shapes it, saying ‘Stop, you’re doing it wrong!’ Does the pot exclaim ‘How clumsy can you be?  How terrible it would be if a newborn baby said to its father, ‘Why was I born?’ or if it said to its mother, ‘Why did you make me this way?’"
-Isaiah 45:9-10

LOVING WHERE YOU'RE AT MONDAY

If you are in Sacramento then you've got to check out the "Goods" found at GOOD:street food + design market. It's just another reason to love Sacramento. The event brings together some of Northern California's best artist, DJs, food, wine, clothing and design together in an amazingly transformed venue every first Sunday, June thru November. Not only that, but everyone we came across at the event was extremely friendly and welcoming, here's just a taste...

Oh, and did I mention a most favorite sister and her little black truck were also in attendance?
And what post of mine would be complete without pictures of my little lovelies? Now you know that this event is open to everyone, but to assure some of my mommy friends, our crew of little avengers loved it! They danced on what may have been art, enjoyed giant shaved ice, made pinatas, got their face painted and boogied to the DJ who was playing their kind of music!

Another reason to love where you're at!

Today's Reflection:
Sacramento has got some great stuff, right inside our borders. Every now and then I'll hear someone comparing Sacramento negatively to much larger cities, as if to point out that we should be more like them. I am grateful for the people who see the best of Sacramento and pull it out and let it shine.
I feel a lesson coming on.
Sometimes we can look down on ourselves, compare ourselves to others or just plain not see the good inside us. There is something good inside each and everyone of us. There is something good, because we were created by such an amazing God. He did not create us all the same for a reason, we all have something different to share something unique and useful and for a purpose. So shine! Shine on and be proud of what lies inside you, because you were wonderfully made!

"I will praise You, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made; Marvelous are Your works, And that my soul knows very well."

LOVING WHERE YOU'RE AT

This is an easy 'Loving where you're at'. On Saturday, hundreds of people crowded under the freeway to show support for Sacto MoFo. We came from near and far, some for their love of mobile food or their love of anything Sacramento and some for their love of supporting small business. I have a hard time not loving anything that food is involved in! This was my first time braving Sacto MoFo and it has given me another reason to love my city.
of course, we came out to see one Truck in particular! That's right, Gypsy was there too! Most of you know I'd go just about anywhere for my sister, I'd volunteer as tribute and enter the hunger games for her, I'd travel to Mount Doom for her to destroy a ring, so dragging my kids and husband on a hot day under the free way was a pleasure...

We even braved a ridiculously long line for some Chando's Tacos...

and ice cream...

So Sacto MoFo, get two thumbs up for a reason to Love Sacramento!

Today's Reflection:
Lord, I pray that you bless Sacramento and the business here! Thank you for the people in Sacramento who continue to make it great and bring hope and inspiration to it. Watch over this beautiful city and those who live in it.
Thank you!

GYPSY KINDA WEEKEND

Sorry no post yesterday! I've been sick, but for those concerned readers, I am starting to turn a corner. There's lots to share with you, we had a really great weekend. On Saturday my big sister opened Sacramento's first Fashion truck! We all turned out to support 'Gypsy' her mobile boutique...
Here's my big sister, she worked extremely hard, along with her husband and many others they really put a lot of love into this truck...

Here's a sneak peek inside, but you can find so much more on her site (www.gypsymobileboutique.com) You can also see Gypsy live and in person this weekend at SactoMoFo

It's the cutest little truck I've ever seen and even better in person, I just know you all will love it! Even Henry Ray loves his Auntie's little black truck...
All in all it was a great weekend hanging out with Gypsy...

Today's Reflection:
Courage has been one of my favorite words this last year. It takes courage to change, courage to not follow others, courage to move forward, courage to stand up and say "Lord I trust in you, I give everything to you!". This Sunday the topic of  the sermon was Courage, which hit home with me. I admire courageous people, I am not always so courageous. I'm so proud of my sister for finding the courage for pursuing a dream of hers. I'm thankful for God giving her the opportunity and the support she needs. Lord, I trust in you, please bless my sister and her new adventure. Let it Glorify you and who you are an never stray from that!

"Commit your actions to the Lord, and your plans will succeed."
-Proverbs 16:3 9 (NLT)
