TOO BIG FOR MY LENS


I sat at the edge of the cliff and focused my lens. I tried to take in the entire picture, the ocean in front of me, massive and endless. I zoomed out as much as I could so that I could share with you the enormity of the sky meeting the ocean, unobstructed, nothing but me and it. I couldn't do it. I wanted to share the beauty of it, I thought perhaps if i had a better lens or if i was a better photographer I could capture it and you could feel the beauty with me. It was all much too large for my lens, the beauty that stood in front of me. 

Then God whispered, "It's a lot like my love."

I stood on the cliff and stood in agreement with God, his wind in my hair, his creation before me. It was a lot like his love, I could describe it to you, I could even take a picture of it, but nothing would compare to seeing it for yourself. 

So often we hear of God's love, we are taught it or told about it, but nothing compares to you experiencing it for yourself. Standing at the edge and taking it all in, the massive and endless love he has for you, unobstructed so large, yet so very personal. 

God wants us to come to that edge and experience it for ourselves, he wants to show us firsthand his love. He gives us such an incredible opportunity to experience it first hand, we don't need to rely on someone else's experience or picture of it.

So friends, I dive in and I swim in God's word and his love, too big for my lens, too large to contain, an unfathomable love that only he can show.

"...I pray that you, being rooted and established in love, may have power, together with all the Lord’s holy people, to grasp how wide and long and high and deep is the love of Christ, and to know this love that surpasses knowledge—that you may be filled to the measure of all the fullness of God." -Ephesians 3:17-20 (NIV)
