PROTECTION FROM 'MONSTERS'

As a mom, there are times when my son will come running to me for protection from the monsters and dinosaurs that are out to get him. Most times he is playing a game, but sometimes he is geniunely scared that the shadows in his room at night are actual monsters. The first time this happened I immediately told him how Jesus was always with him and he wouldn't let any monsters get to him. Now it's become somewhat of a production, he's reminded that Jesus is protecting him, and then in an act of bravery, him and I stand up to the monsters or dinosaurs after him. It's usually a lot of posturing and a few of my best kung fu moves. This is then followed by me shouting at the monsters, you know the usually stuff "Hey you monster get out of here!" "Mommy's here now monster!" "Monster don't you even think about trying to scare me, because I will kung fu you!" (pretty scary right? and no I've never been in a street gang, I'm just naturally gangsta!)

Today's Reflection:
I think about how I need to run to my heavenly father  when I need protection from monsters. Not actual monsters of course, but sometimes it feels like you come across people who purposely try to hurt you or your character, they try to beat you up, sometimes physically but most times emotionally, and even spiritually. Sometimes they are even successful. I came across this scripture the other day, Psalm 37. I love this verse in particular, especially as translated in 'The Message':

"Bad guys have it in for the good guys, obsessed with doing them in. But God isn't losing any sleep; to him they're a joke with no punch line.  Bullies brandish their swords, pull back on their bows with a flourish. They're out to beat up on the harmless, or mug that nice man out walking his dog. A banana peel lands them flat on their faces—slapstick figures in a moral circus."
-Psalm 37:12-15

I love that! I love how 'Gangsta' God is, he's not even losing sleep over the bad guys. Why then, should I lose any sleep when I know that God has got my back? So I continue to cling to him, I continue to trust in him and his word. I focus on God and not the bad guys and 'kung fuing' them (unless of course he wants me to!).

Lord thank you for your protection!

  1. whenever I was scared of monsters or nightmares at night my mom always told me to say this: "go away in the name of the Lord" and that those words would banish the monsters from the house, so everytime i felt scared I would always sit there muttering this to myself and it would always make me feel better. Even now I do it from time to time, but I have an irrational fear of zombies lol!!! Nice to meet you coming by from the big blog party!!!

  3. Funny story: my 2 year old is PETRIFIED of monsters and we pray for protection every night. My 4 year old demanded that we check out a book from the library entitled "THERE ARE MONSTERS EVERYWHERE"
I was like, SERIOUSLY? This is not going to be good.
but it turned out to be a good book. The boy learns karate and scares all the monsters away. Not spiritual, but it reminded me of this post of yours.
